Climbing Training Aid: Final project at Imperial College, London

Duration: 1 Year (part time) / Royal College of Art / 2007-2008

Training for rock climbing is unstructured and difficult. It is hard to see how to improve and why your friend is better than you. I solved this problem through the design of an intelligent climbing hold mount that would feedback 3D force information to the climber.

I designed, made and tested a product prototype using a culmination of skills learnt through my Mechanical Engineering degree including stress analysis, finite element analysis and design for manufacture.

The system was capable of measuring high quality quantitative data that was used to gain biomechanical as well as product insight.
