Analogue Form Finding: A collaboration with the Architecture Academy

Duration: 1 Week / Royal College of Art / 2008

When designing with CAD software form is defined by the designer’s use of a tool then form is generated from an internal set of parameters and algorithms.

This workshop did away with CAD, and replaced it with physical generation of form. Our tool became flexible material moulds, and the algorithm became the plaster poured into them.

This made for a wonderful set of organic forms dictated by real material parameters such as viscosity and elasticity. The project was continued by the Architecture Academy with the final results exhibited at the British Film Institute.
